Addiction Counsellor

 Aventa has a 37 year history in Calgary of providing addiction treatment for women.  Our mission is: To offer women with alcohol, drug, nicotine and gambling addictions the opportunity for a healthy life and a new direction through treatment, education and support.

   Responsibility:   

    Group facilitation (open group process)   

    Individual counseling   

    Assessment and evaluation of client goals   

    Referral and connections to other community resources   

    Monitoring of client activities   

 Qualifications:   

    Degree in a related social science program   

    3 years experience in working with addictions   

    Experience working with women, mental health and corrections is an asset.   

    Standard First Aid, CPR and Suicide Intervention Training   

    Clear Criminal record and Child Welfare Check.   

    Salary 45,000-55,000 Based on experience

Residential Counsellors

Support and supervise client activities in Aventa’s 36 – bed Women’s Residential Treatment Facility.  Aventa’s Residential Treatment facility runs for 24 hours and shifts are arranged to cover, day, evening and weekends.

 Responsibilities 

  • Monitoring/ supervising client activities

  • Accounting for all clients at strategic times such as curfew, bed checks or after fire drills, and meal hours;

  • Implementing a consistent structure of daily activities including chores, recreation and mediation time, house meetings and bed times;

  • Communicating with other members of the treatment team for effective client service, and risk management;

  • Facilitate group;

  • Support assessment, intake and orientation into the facility;

  • Organize and participate in recreational and leisure activities;

  • Provide support to and interact positively with clients;

  • Intervene in client interactions to deescalate conflict and promote relationships; 

  • Intervene strategically with clients in a manner that supports individual client assessment and case plans;

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in a related (human services) field;

  • Experience working in a residential facility is preferred;

  • Addictions knowledge is an asset;

  • Experience working in a helping profession;

  • Basic computer knowledge an asset;

  • Clear Criminal Record check and Child Welfare Check (current within 6 months) as well as Federal Clearance is required upon hiring;

  • Standard First Aid, CPR and Suicide Intervention Training required within 3 months of hiring;

  • Personal suitability;

Nurse

Aventa has an exciting poistion available for a registered nurse to meet the needs of our residential clients.  The nurse is responsible for providing information to clients in the areas of contraception, reproduction, and sexually transmitted infection, and basic medical assessment. The nurse is expected to function independently, flexibly and balance the needs of the facility.

 Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred

  • Diploma in nursing
  • Current CARNA registration
  • Current CPR
  • Experience in high risk pregnancy
  • Experience with community health
  • Experience with addictions
  • Advance critical thinking in an independent practice setting is required
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge is an asset
  • Need to be a team player
  • Will be responsible for coordinating with the Doctor, Psychiatrist, and other community resources

 Work week 20 hours

Cook Position

 AVENTA Treatment Centre for Women is looking for one fulltime cook position. Compensation includes competitive salary within the industry and health and dental benefits.

Responsibilities include:  

·         Performing a variety of cooking and re-thermalization duties requiring judgment and independence.

·         Menu planning

·         Ordering products as per established procedures.

·         Maintaining of food and supply inventory.

·         Following established procedures and standards and involves the use of quantity and quality control techniques.

·         Maintaining a safe, sanitary and aesthetically pleasing dining atmosphere. 

·         Other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

·         Graduation from Grade 12 or equivalent is preferred

·         Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English

·         Journeyman Cook Papers (Alberta Standard)

·         Minimum 2 years cooking experience required, preferably in an institutional settin

Job Characteristics:

·         Frequent heavy lifting

·         Frequent contact with residents in dining area

·         Frequent deadlines

·         Normal large kitchen environment, including noise and heat conditions

·         Operating commercial kitchen equipment

 Personal Attributes and Traits:

In addition to culinary skills, this position requires strong organization and time management skills, as well as the ability to perform job requirements with minimal supervision. Positive communication skills and sensitivity to women at risk is essential.
