Full Time Residential Counselor – Night shift & Casual Positions Available

 

This is a full-time front-line counseling position.  The residential counselor supports and supervises client activities in Aventa’s 46 bed Women’s Residential Treatment Facility.  Aventa’s Residential treatment facility runs for 24 hours and staff are required to cover day, evening and weekends.

 

 Responsibilities

  • Monitoring / supervising client activities;
  • Accounting for all clients at strategic times such as curfew, bed checks, fire drills, and meal hours;
  • Implementing a consistent structure of daily activities including chores and meditation time, house meetings and bed times;
  • Communicating with other members of the treatment team for effecting service, and risk management;
  • Facilitate groups as required;
  • Support intake and orientation into the facility;
  • Organize and participate in recreational and leisure activities;
  • Provide support to and interact positively with clients;
  • Intervene in client interactions to deescalate conflict and promote positive relations;
  • Intervene strategically with clients in a manner that supports individual assessments and case plans;
  • Oversee client medication administration;
  • The successful candidate(s) will be flexible in shift scheduling and will cover evening, night and week-end shifts as required to ensure seamless client care.

 

 Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in a related human services field
  • Experience working in a residential setting;
  • Addictions knowledge;
  • Experience working in a helping profession;
  • Basic computer knowledge;
  • Clear Criminal Record check and Child Welfare check and well as Federal Clearance is required upon hiring;
  • Standard first Aid, CPR and Suicide Intervention Training;
  • Demonstrated flexibility in shift-work in a residential setting;
  • Personal suitability;

Addictions Counselor Position

        This is a full-time therapeutic counseling role.  The counselor is responsible for the case management of 8-12 clients.  The counselor job duties include:

  • Facilitates psycho-educational group sessions, two times a day.
  • Provides individual counseling to clients. This includes information gathering, assessment, case planning, case conferencing, monitoring client activities, strategic intervention, evaluation, referral, safety/recovery planning, discharge, follow-up, and crisis management.
  • Consults with and keeps management appropriately informed of client risk, progress and challenges.
  • Ensures proper documentation and management of client files in a timely and professional manner. This includes observing, recording and reporting on client progress and challenges, documenting and distributing critical incidents according to policy, completing various forms and documents required for accountability and accreditation purposes, writing case notes, ensuring proper release of information records are in place, and protecting the confidentiality of client records.
  • Communicates with other members of the treatment team to ensure effective client service, and risk management.
  • Attends team meetings and contributes actively to a positive and supportive team environment.
  • Supports residential addictions counselors as needed to complete drug screens, admissions, orientation and discharges.

 

Qualification, Experience and Skills

The addictions counselor will hold a minimum of a Bachelors degree in the Social Sciences, and 3+ years of group and/or individual counseling experience in the addiction treatment field.

Current CPR/ First Aid and Suicide Intervention Training.
